This city owned campground is a result of Hurricane Floyd in 1999. It flooded a section next to the Contentnea Creek and the homes could not be rebuilt. The city decided to turn the area into an RV park with walking trails and a play ground. Sounds like a good idea, right? Unfortunately, they need a little more attention to get it right. There are no bath houses, just air conditioned toilets. They were a mess and not clean, being open to the public. The campground is isolated from the rest of the town and it is very peaceful and tranquil. We listened to the birds while sitting outside. No traffic noise. There were four other RV's on site, long term with construction workers. Luckily, it was a holiday weekend and they all went home. We were the only occupied RV in the campground. Lot's of open space to run the dog. No garbage cans, though. We had to use the cans belonging to the long term guys. The site was level and open. Plenty of shade from large trees, but yet open spots to set up a satellite dish. We were able to pick up two local TV stations on our antenna. Good water pressure. No pool, no 50 Amp service, no cable, no wi-fi. This is a very basic campground that is quiet, on a river, and very cheap. We had to go to the police station to check in. A policeman escorted us to our site, a lot better than following a golf cart with a campworker driving |
