We've stayed at Pioneer almost every year for 18 years, have tried other campgrounds, but few even compare. Extra large campsites, many shaded, quiet, clean, park rangers are friendly, Lake Michigan is easily accessible, you can hear the waves at night. It's the highlight of our year!

Beautiful beach and facilities BUT...Park Rangers are extremely harassing. Lights out at 10 pm on the dot. No drinking. They only allow 2 cars per site regardless of how many sites you have. Rent six sites and side by side and they will be there 6-10 times a day to check and see that there are only 2 per site. Also, a boy got lost one night riding his bike and they stopped him to ask where his registration papers were! Papers?? He was only 9. Not only that, they did not escort him back to his AFTER they found out he was lost. The locals in the area avoid this place at all costs due to the nature of the Gestapo like park rangers. Will NEVER camp there again. All the rangers are young and inexperienced and are very very inflexible. Nearest "overflow" parking is 5 mile away at a township hall. Also, a wedding party showed up with 175 people and the rangers told them they could only bring in 2 cars into the park.
